Discussions with locals occurred over the past few days on the images showing different approaches to reconstruction and heritage preservation.
Opinions varied greatly, with preferences going for one image to the other. Heritage and tradition are mostly associated with the timber elements of the façade, the windows being the most significant. But there is also a wish for more modern buildings and amenities, safer construction, and a recognition that traditional buildings have to evolve and be altered in the reconstruction.
Interestingly, accepting change seems to be more widespread among elders, while the younger generation is more interested in preservation.
